| About the Artist |
An abstract vision is in full bloom in the work of Liz Mullins and Ali DePrisco, but each comes at it from a different emotional intensity. Coming from an artistic family, Ms. Mullins is inspired by a constant beat and tempo of music as she works. A hard vitality informs her clean line, geometric works. A former new Yorker, Ms. DePrisco feels a deep connection to the New Mexico landscape and the deep spirituality that emanates from its soil. Anamorphic shapes dance amidst the light to be found in each canvas. If Mullins and DePrisco put us in touch with the indefinable, Arista Baltronis and Sandra Bertrand plant us in the tactile, sensual world of the everyday. Shovels and axes are restored to their original integrity in Ms. Baltronis' work but as if by magic, she had decked out each piece in a treasure chest of Swarovski crystals. In one, a purplish blue axe is embedded in a log of red and orange flamed jewels. It has to be seen to be believed. Ms. Bertrand is fascinated by the color and the heat of the market, cafe, or even one's own dining area. A bowl of chowder, a stranger caught on a Fire Island deck or a sleeping cat give equal weight to the viewer's eye. Her bold brush strokes invite us to partake in the moment before us.
